Topic of Discussion

How hard is it to kill a PC? Inspired by Angela Murray via her response to ep 44 (Fudging Die Rolls):

“[Fudging Dice] discussions talk about killing the characters with a die roll, but no one ever mentions how hard it is to actually kill the characters in most modern games. I’m sure there’s some OSR style games that take the old school lethality to heart, but for the most part, I haven’t played a game where it’s easy to die in ages, and I honestly prefer that.”

  • “modern” game v. an OSR game?
  • do what system mechanics are there to protect PCs
    • HP
    • Saving Throws
    • AC
    • “you get to go to negative HP before you die”
    • Magic (e.g. status spells, distance healing)
    • Bennies, chips, etc
  • Should games be more deadly?
  • Is it all about “the type of game/story you want?”

Die Roll – 2-4 miscellaneous points of gaming or geekery we want to share with you.
